Get over procrastination

It’s fair to say that in order to achieve success you have to continuously move forwards and get stuff done. Even when we don’t want to.

Often in the time we spend thinking about doing and not actually doing, we could have done the task 10 times over.

Makes absolutely no sense if you think about it. So Why do we do it?

Here’s a few tips to get you moving forwards:

Pick Low Hanging Fruit.

Get cracking with the easy tasks, ones that will help you start to feel like you are making headway. This way you get going and then momentum pushes you on to do more.

Get over it.

So there, I said it. Get over it. How much do you want to achieve the end result of what you need to do? More than the task at hand? Stop throwing your toys out of the pram and just get on with it. We all have to do things we don’t want to and we don’t always want to do things!

Reframe Your Motivation.

Not motivating by that excel spreadsheet task? Who the hell would be! Refocus on the real reason you are doing it. Care about your business growth and where you could go? Your role and hitting targets? There you go.

Get Inspired.

Think about those that inspire you, that motivate you. How do you think that they ultimately achieved their success? It was working through the times when they procrastinated and I am sure they did. But they just got on with it and look where it got them. Think of your Steve Jobs, Your Oprah Winfrey, how do you think they would deal with this? Get inspired by those that have broken through their procrastination habits.

The Sound of success.

Have a few favourite tunes or style of music that really gets you going? Pumped up? How about that work out music you always nail your workout to? Music can make a big difference to our mood levels and motivation. So why not put on some good tunes that get you pumped and rocking with the task at hand.

Buddy Up.

How about creating accountability by setting some accountability. Tell each other what you are working on for the next few hours - not in an office with others? How about hanging out on google and working together

Your environment.

If we sit in the same place every day you will lose your motivation. It becomes stale, repetitive and uninspiring. Change it up, sit somewhere else, work from somewhere else or jazz up your desk with some flowers. Go in to the coworking space or office and mix it up each week. Get re motivated by the environment around you.

Set Tasks or focus times.

Sometimes picking up the pace/ timelines can lead to increased motivation. and a way to tick a lot more off your list at the same time. Set tasks that you will do over say 45 minutes or 1 hour sprints and then take 5-10 minute breaks. Everyone is different, once you find your groove it can really help break through your procrastination.
